BUTTERWORTH - Amanah vice-president, Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa, has slammed Pas, denouncing the party's old-school tactics to win votes using religion.

Mujahid highlighted that rejecting Pas does not equate to rejecting Islam, asserting that Islam forbids lying and deceiving others.

"Rejecting Pas is not rejecting Islam. Islam taught us not to lie and deceive others too.

"If Pas is an Islamic party, how come they are cheating, slandering and having so many court cases?," he questioned during a ceramah at Penang Unity Government manifesto launch here today.

He urged both the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery to concentrate on every state assembly, recognising the significance of each state seat in the upcoming elections.

He cautioned his coalition members against being overly confident and underestimating their rivals.

Mujahid warned that the democratic battle ahead would not be easy.

"The rivals we face are known for exploiting religion to garner support," he said.

He also criticised Pas for using a divisive approach, seemingly presenting voters with a binary choice between choosing Islam or undermining it.

Drawing from his own experiences, Mujahid revealed that he was once a member of Pas but left the party due to his dissatisfaction with their modus operandi.

He stressed that the focus should be on genuine democratic principles rather than exploiting religion for political gains.
