KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Democratic Alliance (MUDA) has urged the leaders of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to declare their respective assets and reveal the identities of individuals who are afraid to do so.

Its president, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said eight months after forming the Unity Government, the PH-BN Cabinet have yet to declare assets despite repeated promises.

"Compared to the previous Cabinet, the asset declaration process was usually done in the first month or, at the latest, in the third or fourth month. But now that it has entered the eighth month, there is no asset declaration process, even though it has been promised many times.

"I hope it can be done. I think in this chapter; it is unfair only to blame BN. Every time 'reform' is delayed, the easy way out (excuse) is to blame BN... it can't be (that way).

"The people have to wait... this is BN's fault... BN does not want to (declare)... (while) this is the Unity Government," he said in a media conference announcing the assets of MUDA candidates here on Wednesday.

Commenting further, the former Minister of Youth and Sports said that BN ministers declared their assets when they were in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Government Cabinet in 2020.

Therefore, he suggested that the asset declaration process be made mandatory.

"Cabinet ministers (BN) like YB Khairy Jamaluddin Datuk Seri Hishamuddin (Hussein) all declared assets, so don't give reasons.

"If it is true that the BN ministers (do not want to declare assets) in the Cabinet today, reveal who is afraid to do it. (Is it) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid (Hamidi), or who? "Reveal so that the people know. Don't hide behind the argument that 'reform' cannot be done, it's all BN's fault. That's not fair to the people," he said.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq said all 19 Muda candidates in the upcoming polls in six states on Aug 12 have declared their respective assets today.

The declaration of the assets, he said, is proof of the party's commitment to fighting corruption and promoting good governance.
