IPOH - A four-year-old boy's appeal for food from his neighbours revealed that he was a victim of abuse in an apartment in Menglembu on Wednesday.

Ipoh District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said police were notified of the incident at around 4.30pm.

"The victim, who was alone with the door locked, was found hungry and had injuries all over his body.

"At the time of the incident, his guardians only left a glass of Milo and bread for the victim when they went to work," he said in a statement here on Thursday.

He said the victim's 23-year-old mother and her 26-year-old boyfriend were arrested around 7pm.

"The police seized the rubber pipe and rattan used by the suspect to beat the victim.

"The child has been sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for further treatment and observation," he said.

Yahaya said the two suspects were remanded for five days until the following Monday for investigation under Section 31(1)(A) of the Children Act 2001.

"The victim's mother's boyfriend was found to be positive for methamphetamine.

"The investigation of this case is being completed, and the investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for proposed charges," he said.
