DAP's internal turmoil could harm party's chances in state polls - MP

PERMATANG PAUH – Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition's component party DAP, has reportedly split ahead of the upcoming Penang state election.

This is according to Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, who said that the party is now divided into two factions: one led by DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng and the other led by Penang caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Fawwaz said that the split is due to a number of factors, including the recent nomination process for the state election, in which several incumbent DAP assemblymen were dropped from the party's ticket.

"This shows that DAP has split.

DAP now has several factions, some sided with DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng and Penang caretaker chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

"We can see the nomination at this point; many DAP members have been eliminated from the party, including most of the candidates who support Chow Kon Yeow," he said in an exclusive interview with Sinar Daily.

"So, let's see if Lim wants to dominate Penang," he added.

Penang DAP reportedly facing an internal crisis following the axing of several incumbent assemblypersons from the state election candidate line-up.

Lim, who won the seat with a 7,958-vote majority in the 14th general election, will be going against Perikatan Nasional’s Kong Cheng Ann and PRM’s Teh Yee Cheu.
