SHAH ALAM - Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has filed a defamation suit against Bangi Pas chief Mohd Shafie Ngah after Shafie failed to apologise and pay damages for allegedly defaming him in a Perikatan Nasional (PN) programme.

Syahredzan said that he had sent a letter of demand to Shafie on July 12, demanding an apology and compensation for the defamatory statements that Shafie had made about him in two PN ceremonies in October 2022 and July this year.

The statements were publicly made and broadcast on social media, but Shafie refused to apologize or pay compensation.

“Both ceremonies were aired on social media and received media coverage, but Shafie refused to follow the rules,” he wrote on his Facebook today.

As a result, Syahredzan has filed a lawsuit against Shafie in the Kuala Lumpur High Court, seeking general, special, and exemplary damages, as well as an apology and an injunction preventing Shafie from making any further defamatory statements about him.

Syahredzan said that he took the legal action to protect his reputation and to send a message to others who might be tempted to make defamatory statements about him or other public figures.

He also urged all parties to campaign maturely and peacefully, and to avoid making defamatory statements.
