PUTRAJAYA - The birth of illegitimate children or children born out-of-wedlock which nowadays involve young children and underaged teenagers are alarming, says Yayasan Ikhlas chairman Professor Dr Zainur Rashid Zainuddin.

He said there have been several cases involving minors between the age of 13 and nine being reported.

"In the past, there were 17 or 18-year-olds who gave birth to an illegitimate child, but now I came across three cases involving 13-year-olds.

"In Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu, there were 11 years olds and in Pulau Pinang, a nine-year-old.

"It is concerning because the rate of illegitimate children being born have reached 11 per cent, which is one in every ten (teens having unprotected and premarital sex),” he said.

He said this at a press conference following the launch of the Reproalert Module in Putrajaya on Saturday.

Zainur also noted that one of the main causes of this was due to the use of gadgets.
