KUANTAN - A man lost both legs after the lorry he was driving hit the back of an empty trailer and a car before it overturned on Jalan Pintasan Kuantan at Semambu near here, on Saturday.

Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said in the four-vehicle pileup which took place at about 12.15am, the victim aged 55 sustained severe injuries.

According to him, a 29-year-old man driving a Perodua Viva sustained injuries to various parts of his body, while the drivers of a trailer and another Perodua Axia car were uninjured.

“Initial investigation revealed the accident takes place while the four vehicles were en route to Gambang from Semambu.

"When arriving at the scene of the incident, the lorry driven by the victim is believed to have lost control before hitting the back of the trailer and the Perodua Viva before overturning across the road," he said.

Wan Mohd Zahari said the trailer hit by the victim's lorry slipped before hitting the Perodua Axia, which was moving slowly in front of it.

"The victim was brought to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) and was treated in the emergency ward (red zone)."

"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987," he said.
