KEPALA BATAS - Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh expresses his gratitude to the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, for the debate on the direction of the youth in the country.

On Thursday, Syed Saddiq invited top youth leaders representing Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN), Adam Adli, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

"This is a very good move for the political atmosphere in our country because youngsters and Malaysians now want mature and progressive politics.

"So, I would like to say good luck to YB Syed Saddiq and YB Fadhli Shaari. We are looking forward to the debate," Akmal told Sinar Daily in an exclusive sit-down.

"As you can know, this is the last week of the state election campaign. This is a very good initiative. It will create a new political environment among the youngsters," he added.

Akmal, when asked if the Muar MP asked him to join the debate, elaborated that he would be looking forward to it; however, he said he needs to look at his schedule first.

"Of course we are looking forward to it, but we need to look at our schedule because now that it is a critical time, we have a packed schedule. If we cannot make it by this week, of course we will do it another time, InshaAllah."

However, Adam Adli, who is also the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, said that the event should be held after the state elections because opportunities should be given to new candidates so that they can get more exposure and attention from the media and the people.

On top of that, Akmal elaborated that he was also looking forward to the big debate between PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli and Perikatan Nasional’s Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman, which will take place on Aug 9.
