Jagdeep vows to double Penang's affordable housing units by 2030

PADANG KOTA - Former housing exco member Jagdeep Singh Deo has vowed to double Penang's affordable housing units to 220,000 by 2030.

Speaking at a ceramah today, Jagdeep said that Penang is the only state in Malaysia with the highest number of affordable housing units, with 154,000 units already built.

"Our agenda in Penang Vision 2030 is to double up the number to 220,000 units," he said at Sheng Yi food court.

Jagdeep said that this is doable with the support of Penangites.

"We have already achieved 57.06 per cent of our target, and we are confident that we can reach our goal by 2030," he said.

The affordable housing project, which is currently underway, will comprise of a 49-storey building with 1,218 residential units.

It will also provide general facilities for residents such as a swimming pool, recreation park, gymnasium, community hall, as well as badminton and basketball courts.

Jagdeep said that the project is expected to be completed by 2025.
