IPOH - The outbreak of respiratory tract infections involving Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) has recorded an increase in Perak, with most cases concentrated in educational institutions.

He said 30 respiratory tract infection outbreaks had been reported in Perak through cumulative monitoring for this year up to the 30th Epidemiological Week (EW) which ended on July 29.

He said, after the launch of the IRARC Generic for the Quarrying Sector in Perak here today, that 73.3 per cent of the epidemic cases were detected in educational institutions, 16.7 per cent in private homes and the remaining 10 per cent in other places.

Meanwhile, Perak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) director Dr Rabaayah Daud said they received 511 reports of workplace accidents from January to July this year.

She said 483 cases involved non-permanent disability, 13 cases of permanent disability, eight cases of dangerous incidents and seven fatalities.

"Through this briefing, we emphasise that employers and employees always prioritise safety aspects that also involve health and welfare in the workplace,” she said. - BERNAMA
