KUALA LUMPUR - Padang Rengas Umno division chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he was puzzled as to why certain parties were working towards toppling the government which is fighting against corruption.

Nazri said the push towards toppling a government fighting against corruption was as if the parties themselves were protecting corruption activities in the nation.

He explained some claimed the opposition were united due to feeling uneasy by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's efforts in combating corruption.

“Many told me if Anwar did not press on the corruption issues, they (the opposition) would fall apart, but because Anwar is fighting corruption, it’s uniting the opposition.

“I don’t want to state that the opposition is involved with corruption, but it seems that they can unite because they want to keep their positions because there were rumours of them being involved with corruption.

“These are not my words, this is what individuals told me, I saw they were divided now they are uniting, why would they stop the Prime Minister from achieving success in his efforts against corruption, that’s the reality,” he told Awani.

Nazri said he was of the opinion that the opposition now wanted the Unity Government to fall because they wanted to ensure that the Prime Minister's efforts against corruption fails.

“I think this is the main reason the opposition is working hard towards toppling the government.

“That’s why. I think they are worried they would face the courts on corruption charges,” he said.

Nazri stated what was done by the opposition proved they did not fight for the fate of the public and wanted to uphold their personal interests.

He stated if the opposition cared about the public, the efforts to combat corruption must be supported wholeheartedly. - AWANI
