Reject Malay political sentiment of 'opposing' the Chinese, says DAP's Loke.

SEPANG - Malay voters in Malay majority areas are cautioned against succumbing to opposition's political sentiments that aim to breed hostility between them and the Chinese community.

According to a report by Malay Daily Utusan Malaysia, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke emphasised that the people in the country should reject such divisive racial campaigns.

"It's rather perplexing that the opposition consistently plays the sentiment that Malays must be adversarial towards the Chinese and vice versa.

"Nonetheless, I have firmly stated that we (DAP) harbor no such intention. Malays are not enemies of the Chinese and instead we must firmly reject such myopic and racially infused politics," he was reported saying during a speech at the Ceramah Perdana @ Sungai Pelek event held here last night.

Commenting further, Loke cited himself as an example as the Seremban MP where a majority of his constituents were Malays, yet no issues have arisen.

"I find it puzzling that there are no qualms when a Chinese representative serves in a Malay-majority area, as we are duty-bound to serve all communities," he said.

It is believed that he was referring to the recent campaign by Perikatan Nasional (PN) that questioned the decision to field PH candidate Lwi Kian Keong in the Malay-majority Sungai Pelek area.

Lwi is a DAP representative and a local who has previously served as a village head and a member of the Sepang Municipal Council.

Therefore, Loke urged voters to champion a politics of consensus among all communities which would enable them to collaboratively contribute to the stability of the country, ultimately influencing its people.
