KEPALA BATAS - Umno will not care if the party suffers a major loss in the state polls.

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said such to comment on the party’s position if it failed to win 50 per cent of the 108 seats contested.

“I think Umno will simply not care (if they lose), If Umno ‘pack up’ they will act like nothing happened except for Reezal (Datuk Seri Reezal Merican),” he said.

He commented that when he was attending to aid Reezal’s campaign, who was the Bertam state seat BN candidate, here, on Thursday.

When asked whether he would aid Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates campaigning, Khairy said his presence is only to help Reezal.

“If in Bertam I know some refused to vote for BN due to certain factors but set aside those factors and help Reezal.

“One vote for Reezal is not a vote for (Datuk Seri Ahmad) Zahid Hamidi,” he said.

He stated his visit in Bertam was to aid the BN candidate based on friendship.

Khairy viewed Reezal as the most suitable candidate for the seat and he would inherit Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi or Pak Lah’s legacy since the 70s.

“Reezal is the heir towards Pak Lah’s struggle, so I don’t want it (the struggle) to be severed.

“Despite the 15th General Election (GE15) showing some disturbances I hope the state election would have Reezal continue the struggle,” he said.

The former health minister was among the ‘old members’ in Umno sacked from the party.

It was due to the former Rembau MP’s disciplinary violation in the party according to the Umno Constitution in GE15. - AWANI
