Thunderstorms, heavy rain predicted on voting day

SHAH ALAM - It will be wet and thunderous polling day this Saturday according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

The department said thunderstorms and heavy rain were expected to take place during the six state elections.

In a statement today, it said adverse weather conditions were expected to affect a few areas in Selangor namely Petaling, Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat, and Sepang in the morning while Hulu Selangor, Gombak, and Hulu Langat was expected to experience rainfall in the afternoon.

Up North, MetMalaysia heavy rain was expected to hit the entire state of Penang in the morning, and thunderstorms were expected to concentrate in three districts: North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai and South Seberang Perai in the evening.

Warning of heavy rain in Kedah will be focused in Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda.

While thunderstorms were predicted in Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.

In Negeri Sembilan, the department said heavy rain was expected in Rembau and Kuala Pilah, while Seremban and Port Dickson will experience thunderstorms in the morning.

Thunderstorms in Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol, and Tampin were expected to occur in the evening.

In the east coast, MetMalaysia said thunderstorms were expected to affect the entire state of Kelantan in the afternoon, with favourable weather in the morning.

Several districts in Terengganu, such as Kemaman and Dungun, were expected to be overcast, also known as cloudy weather, in the morning, while thunderstorms were expected in Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Hulu Terengganu.
