KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took a swipe at Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders for riding on religion to slander others and punish people in the name of religion.

Without naming anyone, Anwar said the opposition has been using religion to scare people into supporting them.

"They have been riding on religion to slander and punish people if they do not support them.

"Enough of this corruption, enough of this nepotism, enough of Sakau (kleptocracy), enough of using religion.

"I don’t care about politics. This PM will not tolerate this nonsense. This is a peaceful country.

"How can they lie to us directly? Did they think that we are stupid to believe this?" he asked during the Kita Selangor grand finale ceramah tonight.

Anwar added that the premier said such acts would not be tolerated after Aug 12 and that stern action would be taken against them.

"I have already discussed this with (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) and (Datuk Seri) Fadillah (Yusof).

"I have also presented it to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah) and the Sultan of Selangor (Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah). This is not just politics, and I don't care who they are supporting because it is their right," he added.

Anwar also said he represents and speaks for all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.

"If I support the Malays, that doesn’t mean I don’t care about the Chinese and Indians. This is not a zero-sum game.

"Yes, Islam is the official religion. We will increase the understanding of Islam and further strengthen Bahasa Malaysia. We will also guarantee the rights of the Malays and Bumiputera, as well as honour the Malay Rulers.

"But do not insult 'Anak Malaysia', regardless of any religion. Everyone, regardless of race, is all our family and must be defended," he said, adding that the opposition has been harping that the Malays were being abandoned in the country.

Anwar also took a swipe at Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who said the coalition had set up a committee for the Indians.

Indirectly poking fun at PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Anwar said they were the coalition with the most corruption cases.

"Your kids are involved in corruption; your son-in-law is involved in corruption. You think we Malaysians are stupid and sakau like you? he asked.

Adding further, he said the young voters in Selangor were now smart enough to make decisions without being influenced, urging them to make the right decision on Saturday.
