SEREMBAN - The decision of P Ramasamy to leave the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and relinquish all his positions within the party will not impact the voting in the upcoming state elections on Saturday, said DAP Deputy Secretary-General V Sivakumar.

He said in a democratic country, everyone has the right to make their own choices, emphasising that the provisions in the Constitution also grant every individual in the country the right to associate.

"This means we have the right to join any political party or choose not to join any political party, organisation, or otherwise.

"So, the decision he made is his own, and I do not see that it will have any political effect or impact on the voting tomorrow," he said.

Sivakumar, the Human Resources Minister, made the statement to reporters after officiating the Youth Safety and Health programme in Seremban at the TAFE College on Friday.

Sinar Harian had previously reported that former Penang DAP Deputy Chairman Ramasamy had submitted his resignation letter as a member of the DAP and as the DAP Chai Leng Park Division Chief to the party's Secretary-General, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, at 8.24am, Thursday.

He also submitted his resignation as the Penang DAP Deputy Chairman to the Chairman, Chow Kon Yeow.

He stepped down from his positions due to the party's failure to appreciate differences in opinion and the lack of internal transparency.
