MARANG - Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said that the party's decision to change the Menteri Besar (MB) and Deputy Menteri Besar of Kelantan is due to the incumbent MB, Datuk Ahmad Yakob's current infirmity and his desire to pave the way for younger leaders.

He mentioned that due to his current health status, Ahmad has requested to resign from the position if Pas successfully maintains its administration in the state in the upcoming state election today.

He added that in addition to this, the decision to change the Deputy Menteri Besar of Kelantan was made to bring about changes in the state.

"The Menteri Besar wants to resign due to infirmity. Even from before, he had appealed to be replaced but we persuaded for him to continue.

"Then while serving, he pressed for a replacement in the middle of his duties because he is indeed exhausted.

"He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment so many times. We sympathize and will consider it this time.

"We want a new spirit in Kelantan. There's change in Kelantan, that's why the Deputy Menteri Besar is also going to be changed," he told reporters after casting his vote at Rusila National School here today.

It was reported yesterday that the Menteri Besar of Kelantan, Datuk Ahmad Yakob, and his deputy, Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah, will be replaced with new leadership if Pas succeeds in maintaining its administration in the state during the state elections.

Ahmad also stated that he will pave the way for younger candidates in the future.

Mohd Amar also successfully defended the Panchor State Assembly seat.

In a related matter, Abdul Hadi denied that the leadership change was due to pressure or recent issues in Kelantan.

"No, not at all, he said, "We have been governing for a very long time. 30 years of service is exhausting for those who are in office."

However, Hadi announced that the two new candidates for Menteri Besar and its Deputy will be accepted by all parties, including the people of Kelantan.

"We already have proposed candidates for His Majesty (the Sultan of Kelantan). Discussions with His Majesty will take place after the people's decision (formation of the government),

"God willing the proposal will be accepted by the people and accepted by His Majesty," he added.
