Polls: Voter turnout trend slows down

PUTRAJAYA - The percentage of voter turnout for the elections in the six states shows a downwards trend since noon.

The official Election Commission (EC) social media update showed the turnout for each hour until 2pm was less than 10 per cent.

Statistics displayed four states recording over 50 per cent voter turnout.

Among them were Kedah at 56 per cent, Terengganu (56 per cent), Penang (53 per cent) and Selangor (51 per cent).

Negeri Sembilan recorded a turnout of 49 per cent followed by Kelantan at 45 per cent.

The elections witnessed over 570 candidates contesting for 245 state seats.

A total of 9,773,571 voters were expected to perform their duties in 3,190 polling centres to decide which party would form new state governments.
