KUALA TERENGGANU - Former Terengganu Umno chairman Tan Sri Idris Jusoh has urged party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to take responsibility for the significant defeat suffered by Barisan Nasional (BN) in Saturday's elections in six states.

In a brief post on his Facebook page today, Idris also urged Zahid to step down from his position in the party.

"Umno suffered a severe loss in the recent state polls. Umno lost 100 per cent in Terengganu. Zahid needs to resign," he wrote.

The results of the state elections in six states witnessed BN recording its worst defeat in history, as the party only won 19 out of 108 contested seats in the state seats.

In Selangor, BN only won four seats, Negeri Sembilan (13), one seat each in Penang and Kelantan, while no seats were won in Kedah and Terengganu.

More surprisingly, the seats held by two former Terengganu Menteri Besar in Kijal and Seberang Takir, as well as several BN strongholds in Hulu Besut, Jertih, Kuala Besut, Telemung, Batu Rakit, Bukit Besi, Air Putih, and Langkap, also fell in the state elections.

All of the seats were among those won by BN in Terengganu in the 14th General Election (GE14).
