GERIK - An Orang Asli woman was killed in an elephant attack in Kampung Bal, Kemar Resettlement Plan (RPS) here yesterday.

The victim, Zaitun, 50, was reportedly attacked by the wild elephant at the back of her home at around 5.30pm.

She was found in critical condition and was pronounced dead while on her way to the nearest health clinic.

Her body has been taken to the Gerik Hospital for an autopsy.

Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director, Yusoff Shariff said that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the attack.

He also urged the public to be cautious when in areas where elephants are known to roam.
