'Barbie' tops North American box office for 4th straight weekend

LOS ANGELES - Warner Bros Pictures' fantasy comedy ‘Barbie’ took the top spot at the North American box office for fourth consecutive weekend with an estimated three-day cume of US$33.7 million, showed figures from the measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.

The live-action film, directed by American female filmmaker Greta Gerwig, has grossed US$526.3 million in North America through Sunday.

"The film has captured the imagination of moviegoers around the world and the results are incredibly impressive with a massive global cume through this weekend of US$1.184 billion," wrote Comscore senior movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian in an email to Xinhua.

Based on the iconic Barbie fashion dolls, ‘Barbie’ features an all-star cast including Oscar-nominees Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Universal Pictures' biographical drama ‘Oppenheimer’, directed by Christopher Nolan, came in second with US$18.8 million on its fourth weekend for a North American total of US$264.3 million.
