JOHOR BAHRU - Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Samad's statement on Facebook today has sparked discussions and raised concerns on unity government.

In the message referring to Umno's performance in the 14th general election (GE14), GE15 and the recent state elections, he wrote: "The GE14 tsunami, the GE15 wave, just the same as state elections.

The unity government is no longer the cure," he wrote.

The post garnered mix reactions from social media users who wanted the former Johor Bahru MP to be brave and speak out.

"Speak up Tan Sri. Don't get denial syndrome.

"Speak the truth even if it taste bitter," commented Ahmad Fansuri Mohd Nasir.

Shafiq Gaphar shared his belief that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi holds the cure.

"Zahid is the cure.. if Zahid steps down, it will be cured..," Shafiq suggested.

The opinion was also supported by Suria Karto: "Zahid Hamidi is no longer relevant."

Jamal Masrin metaphorically proposed a need for treatment, suggesting in ensuring the treatment is safe and beneficial.

"First, we need to treat ourselves. There are various types of treatment but make sure all of them do not contain chemical substances that can lead to sudden death or damage in the long run.

"We are observers, but you are the members."

Meanwhile, Joe Frazer suggested the opposite: "If you believe there is no cure (hope) for Umno, they can withdraw. Let the unity government tumble (collapse) and Malaysia will be governed by Perikatan Nasional government."
