SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is urged to take action against any politicians including national leaders who are involved in misconduct, especially corruption.

Malaysian Gema Youth Organisation (Gema) vice-president Mohammad Amar Masuri said that such attitude should not exist in a leader when the government is trying to make the country a place with zero corruption.

"The determination of a leader to mobilise or advance the fate of the people needs to be accompanied by their abilities that are compatible with the values of integrity, trust and transparency," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian.

He said this when asked to comment on a media report about Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who announced an allocation of over half a million ringgit involving the Ketengah Youth Association amounting to RM100,000 in addition to RM250,000 for the Terengganu Youth Council and RM200,000 for motoring associations in Terengganu.

In the report, Zahid who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and Umno president said that the allocated amount may be increased depending on the election results.

In the meantime, Amar said leaders needed to focus and have the desire, principles and high integrity in defending the fate of the people and not be involved in wrongdoings.

"If there is an element of corruption as alleged, MACC should take immediate action," he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) vice-president Zairudin Hashim said all parties needed to cooperate with the MACC to carry out a full investigation against parties suspected of being involved in embezzlements.

He said in every investigation and prosecution, the courage to act must be instilled regardless of the status and background of the perpetrator.

He said that continuous action needed to be taken to eradicate the symptoms of corruption which was becoming a cancer in the country.

"The young generation needs to be more exposed to education on nationalism, which is through the context of building a nation.

"Therefore, I hope that all parties give space to the MACC to conduct a fair investigation against the parties alleged to be involved in the issue of corruption and embezzlement," he said when contacted on Friday.

Zairudin said the political world needed to be seen more broadly and not only involving the issue of party ideology but instead, the value of identity needed to be stressed to form the best character.

He explained that the people needed to ensure that they were able to mobilise pressure so that only the best candidates will be accepted by the people.

"This is because, it will lead to every candidate working hard to present their best potential, in addition to providing a clean and efficient service," he said.
