Pas welcomes high court decision to acquit Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin

SHAH ALAM - Following the nullification of Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's power abuse charges, Pas expresses their gratitude and welcomes the decision made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court earlier today.

In a press statemen the party's secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said Pas had always believed in Muhyiddin Yassin's innocence.

"Right from the beginning, Pas anticipated this decision, as we believed that the charges brought against him were selective and politically motivated," he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also the former prime minister and President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was acquitted of four charges related to the alleged acceptance of RM232.5 million in bribes in connection with the Jana Wibawa program.

"As an ally of Bersatu within the PN coalition, we are confident that these charges were part of a plan to weaken PN.

"However, we do not see them affecting our performance; in fact, they have only added to the support we garnered in the state elections held in six states last Saturday," the statement read.

The Islamic party also vehemently opposes the misuse of law enforcement agencies as tools to achieve political objectives and is sure that the court allegations were made to undermine the political reputation of the PN chairman.

"Pas is convinced that the action against Tan Sri Muhyiddin is intended to divert attention from the issues within Umno, which is part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim."
