SHAH ALAM - The Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, has raised concerns regarding the composition of the Terengganu state executive council (Exco), especially on inadequate representation of women.

"Who will be the woman's exco to take care of women's welfare issues in Terengganu?" she asked on a Twitter post on Tuesday.

She was commenting on the Association of United Malaysian Youth Chairman Muhammad Fairuz Azmi's post on the exco lineup for the state.

The lineup saw only male exco members appointed by the state leadership.

Newly installed Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the list of Terengganu state government Exco will be presented to the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, on Wednesday (Aug 16) morning.

It was reported that the existing portfolios are being studied and will be coordinated with agencies at the Federal Government level to ensure there is no overlap.

Responding to Hannah's Twitter post, Muhammad Fairuz commented that Zuraida Md Noor will assume the role of deputy Exco for women's affairs.

"As you may already be aware, a state executive council often entails members managing multiple portfolios to effectively handle various responsibilities.

"For your information, Zuraida will be undertaking the significant responsibility of Deputy Exco for Women's Affairs, overseeing this pivotal domain.

"Her responsibilities will encompass a comprehensive approach to addressing issues related to women's welfare and empowerment.

Hence, there is no need for undue concern, as she is well-equipped and positioned to adeptly fulfill this role," Fairuz articulated in response to Hannah's Tweet today.
