SHAH ALAM - The PKR central leadership council (MPP) asks all parties not to get caught up in the speculation game on the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar (MB).

Its committee member and former state government exco Hee Loy Sian said the speculations made about the appointment of the Selangor MB was not true.

He said he was confident that state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will be retained as the MB for the new term.

"Regarding the Selangor MB candidate, it is just a speculation, don't believe it and I am sure Amirudin will be appointed as Selangor MB," he told Sinar, today.

Meanwhile, another MPP member, Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri said Amirudin was the vice-president of PKR and the most senior leader in the position he held.

This, he said was an advantage for Amirudin and even his administrative and management performance as MB was previously considered one of the best in the country.

"There is indeed a weakness in terms of support and a decline in support from voters in the state election, but this does not symbolise Amirudin's failure," he said.

Mohd Yahya added that it happened at the national level because there was no compatibility between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters at the respective state levels.

Meanwhile, Selangor Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) legal bureau chief Khairul Naim Rafidi was of the view that Amirudin should be retained as MB.

"Amirudin should be retained as MB because of the performance shown by the Selangor government before," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that there were speculations that Amirudin would not be appointed as Selangor MB for a second term after PH failed to obtain a two-thirds majority in the recent state polls.

This was after a PKR leader who refused to be named was reported to have said that although Amirudin managed to defend the Sungai Tua state seat and performed well as MB, he failed to gain the support of Malay voters.

PH won 32 seats in the state election in Selangor last Saturday, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 22 seats and BN, PH's ally in the federal government only won two seats.
