GUA MUSANG - A form one student's stomach was pierced by bamboo when the motorcycle he was riding on collided with the back of a pickup truck loaded with the material.

The truck was parked on the side of Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli at Setelu Island Bridge here, on Tuesday.

During the incident at 9.30pm, the victim, Mohammad Ammar Hazriq Zuhan, 13, who is a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Bendahara suffered serious injuries after being stabbed with a two-metre bamboo that penetrated his stomach.

Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said, preliminary investigations found that the victim was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle on his way to go fishing from his home in Kampung Pulau Setelu.

"The victim had hit the back of a pickup truck with a load of bamboo that was parked on the side of the road.

"One of the bamboo sticks measuring two meters pierced through the stomach of the student involved," he said when contacted on Wednesday.

According to him, the victim was taken by the public to Gua Musang Hospital for initial treatment before being referred to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital, Kuala Krai.

He said the case was investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still underway.

In another update, Choon Foo told road users to be more careful when travelling and to use road signals
