War on drugs: 'If you see something, tell us' - Police

SHAH ALAM - Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has urged the public to be the "eye and ear" of the police in the fight against drug trafficking.

He said that drugs are increasingly being sold online, making it difficult for the police to monitor them.

However, he added that the public can play a vital role by sharing information with the police about suspicious activities.

"The public is everywhere, and the police cannot be everywhere.

"So the public can be our eyes and ears to relay information to us so that we can prevent drug trafficking," Hussein told Sinar Daily recently.

Hussein also said that the punishment for drug trafficking is already severe, but it is not enough to deter people from using drugs.

He said that a holistic approach is needed to combat drug addiction, involving not just the police but also other agencies such as the health ministry and the social welfare department.

"The drug addiction problem must be tackled from all angles.

"We cannot just arrest drug traffickers and send them to jail.

"We need to provide treatment and rehabilitation for addicts, and we need to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse," he added.

Hussein also spoke about the use of technology in the fight against drug trafficking.

He said that the police are using drones to patrol areas where drug trafficking is suspected. T

The drones can cover a wider area in a shorter time than patrol cars, and they can also be used to identify suspicious activity.

"We need the cooperation of the public to win this war on drugs.

"If you see something, tell us," Hussein said.
