Shah Alam flash floods linked to malfunctioning pumping system, says rescue team

SHAH ALAM - Poor pumping system into drainage has been identified as one of the causes for flash floods at Section 13, here, this evening.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Chief of Operations Zulfikar Jaffar said no evacuations were necessary as water has since receded.

"Flash floods were reported in several areas around Section 13 due to heavy rain.

"Furthermore, checks revealed a malfunctioning pumping system into drainage.

"However, the situation was brought under control after the pump was repaired by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA)," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, the Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the floods are believed to have occurred between 3,40pm to 4,37pm.

"Among the affected areas are the route of Persiaran Sukan Road as well as the roundabout route towards the Accapela building," he said.

The affected areas were around Surau Munawwarah are leading to traffic light intersection, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf Club and nearby road at the old Management and Science University (MSU) building and the route at Perdana Apartments.
