KUALA LANGAT - A Toyota Vios driver who ran a red traffic light sped off out of panic after being asked to stop by a police patrol car at Batu 7 Sijangkang here on Tuesday.

Kuala Langat District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor, said the incident happened at about 11pm.

According to him, during the incident, the patrol car saw the Toyota Vios in question beat the traffic light.

"They ordered the car to stop, but the driver, believed to be panicked, continued to accelerate before being chased for about one kilometre to the Sijangkang Jaya Housing Estate area.

"The Toyota Vios driven by a 41-year-old man was detained, and checks found that there were passengers in the vehicle: a woman who is his wife and their three children," he said in a statement on Thursday.

No illegal items were also found in the car, he added.

He said the police patrol had issued a POL 257 summons to the driver involved for disobeying the red traffic light, for which this offence could be subject to a RM300 fine.

Earlier on Wednesday, a video of the police patrol car chasing the car in question went viral on TikTok social media.
