KAPIT - Small businesses in Sarawak have been urged to register their trade in order to grow to an optimum level and increase their income.

International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry (Mintred) advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said doing so would allow them to benefit from government assistance and guidance in business.

"It is true that you can do business on the side of the road or from home and earn an income. But your business is not able to thrive and your income will be limited.

"These businesses should register as an enterprise at the local council or at the district office,” he said when representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Mintred minister, at the launch of the "Program Jum Regista Bisnes (Regista)” in Song, here today.

Naroden also advised small entrepreneurs to take advantage of information technology (IT), especially social media, to develop and advance their businesses.

"By using IT, the internet and social media you can get new ideas for your business, exchange information and sell your products to a wider market, including overseas,” he said.

The Regista programme aims to help unlicensed entrepreneurs, traders and hawkers in the Song district to register and obtain a business licence.

It also provides awareness and knowledge about the importance of having a business licence or permits to run a business legally, as well as allowing them to enjoy financial assistance and other assistance from various entrepreneurial agencies.
