Iraqi man who burned Quran in Sweden assaulted

SHAH ALAM - Salwan Momika, an Iraqi refugee who has been investigated for possible hate crimes related to his Quran burning demonstrations, was assaulted on Monday in Södertälje, Sweden.

A video of the assault, which was posted on Twitter, shows a man wearing gloves approaching Momika and punching him several times.

"Come on, let’s play, you and me," the man reportedly said in Arabic.

The video has been viewed over 1,900 times

The police have confirmed that they received a report of the assault and are investigating the matter.

"There was some kind of argument betwaeen two people and it shows like one person who got assaulted," the police spokesperson reportedly said.

No arrests have been made.

Momika is a supporter of the far-right Sweden Democrat Party and has supported a ban on the Quran.

He has caused outrage in Muslim countries by burning or defacing copies of the Quran outside the largest mosque in Stockholm as well as the Iranian and Iraqi embassies.
