Chemical leak detected in Pasir Gudang factory by fireman

PASIR GUDANG - Johor Malaysia Fire and Rescue Services (JBPM) detected a styrene monomer chemical leak at a factory in Jalan Pekeliling here, today.

Operations Commander Assistant Fire Chief (PPGB) Sarhan Akmal Mohamad said the operation involved six personnel from the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and eight Larkin BBP Hazardous Chemicals Special Team (Hazmat).

He said the Pasir Gudang BBP received the information on pollution odor from the area at 5.21pm.

“Investigations identified chemical leak at the pipeline located at the factory.

“The Hazmat team was deployed to contain the spill. Operations were still ongoing and no injuries were reported from the incident,” he said in a statement, today.

Johor JBPM urged the public to refrain from making speculative comments that has gone viral on social media as it could potentially distrupt public order and raise concerns.
