POKOK SENA - A restaurant has taken the initiative to introduce a menu priced at RM1 known as Menu Sanusi in Bukit Payung here to help the public.

The owner, Nur Ezzeanni Abdullah, 43, said that she has actually been selling several types of menus priced at RM1 since before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nur Ezzeanni said they branded the RM1 menu as the Sanusi Menu after the victory of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in the recent state election.

"Among the foods priced at RM1 are mi kari, laksa, kuey teow, ayam goreng rempah, ayam masak kicap, ayam masak ros, ayam rendang and so on.

"Almost every day, we provide different menu options for customers; for example, today we cook curry noodles and when they finish we will add another menu," she said when met at her restaurant at Anjung Selera Rasa Anakku here yesterday.

Nur Ezzeanni, who has been running the restaurant for 17 years, explained that the RM1 menu proves there are cheap menus that can be sold to customers.

The mother of five said that it was her husband, Azizan Mahmud, 44, who gave the idea for the RM1 menu to be named the Sanusi Menu.

"So, when people remember Sanusi's Menu, people remember that near Kedah they will sell cheap food," she said.

According to him, they hope that the Sanusi Menu will make Kedah more known to the people of Malaysia, as well as help Kedahans.

Nur Ezzeanni said that she, assisted by 12 workers, will cook between 20 and 30 meals, including Sanusi's Menu in the restaurant, which operates from Sunday to Thursday.

She said they also sell various other types of food at reasonable prices at the restaurant, apart from the Sanusi Menu.

"Alhamdulillah, the public's response to the RM1 menu has been very good," she said.

She said she does not see the RM1 menu as a loss but rather as a form of charity for the local residents.

"There is no loss. On the contrary, we still gain in a way that we can help the population, mostly of rubber tappers," she said.

She added that residents can choose several types of menus priced at RM1 at her restaurant, that operates from 6am to 3pm.
