Selangor Pas youth demands probe into state's general insurance scheme

SHAH ALAM - Selangor Pas youth are demanding for a probe into the alleged scandal of Selangor General Insurance Scheme (INSAN) which has reportedly seen Selangor citizens registered in the scheme without the recipient's permission.

Youth chief Mohamed Sukri Omar claim users were registered under the scheme since 2022 with active statuses scheduled to expire in November this year.

He further urged the Selangor administration to provide clarity on the matter, among them the status of project operator WavPay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd, which is owned by the private company CT Frank Technology with a major share of 51 per cent.

"The state government also needs to clarify the position of former State Exco Datuk Teng Chang Khim as a director for WavPay, which appears to be a conflict of interest," he said in a statement.

Sukri also spoke on the inconsistencies on the statements.

For example, Chang in 2022 described the scheme needing to be applied for which contradicts the statement made by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari who had said the scheme was only at the 'pre-registration' stage which will only be active when filled in by the people themselves.

On Tuesday, there was a dispute about users being registered without permission through INSAN, allegedly using personal data without permission.

The issue which went viral on social media has raised public concerns about the level of personal data security.

Sukri said that as a financial product, the insurance scheme cannot legally be registered without the permission and knowledge of the beneficiary, a violation of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

"The Pas Selangor youth demand an explanation from Amirudin and the state government. We further demand the issue to be investigated by the authorities.

"We also advise citizens who have found names listed in insurance schemes without permission to lodge a police report to protect personal data," he said.
