Floods hit Maran, 278 victims evacuated

KUANTAN - A total of 278 residents from 60 families had to be moved to two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) following the flood that hit several areas in Maran on Friday night.
Based on the information from the Social Welfare Department's Disaster Info portal, there were two PPS that opened early Saturday morning which were Kampung Baru Flood Evacuation Centre in Sungai Chedong and Kampung Berkat Town Hall, Maran.
As of 9am, Kampung Baru Sungai Chedong Flood Evacuation Centre currently housed 252 victims and another 26 victims were placed at Kampung Berkat Town Hall.
Several areas in Maran district were reported to have been hit with flash floods due to heavy rain since Friday night.
The flood that also hit Ulu Luit and Kuala Sentul areas had gone viral after a video displaying the natural disaster was shared on Tiktok and Facebook.
