Petronas trains 100 Sarawak's varsity students on digital upskilling

KUCHING - Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has trained 100 students from six institutions of higher learning in Sarawak on digital upskilling through Petronas BeDigital Bootcamp with a total of 50 conditional job opportunities were offered from Petronas and the programme partners.

Senior vice president of project delivery and technology Datuk Bacho Pilong said the programme is one of the company’s collaborations with the state in developing talents to support the transition into a new economy future.

"Petronas believes in future-proofing our people through digital upskilling not only across the enterprise but also among communities in which we operate, towards building a talent pool that is digitally empowered.

"As the national energy company, we will continue to collaborate with government agencies, industry players and hiring partners in building a sustainable pipeline of digitally skilled and dynamic talents for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said at the BeDigital Bootcamp closing ceremony here yesterday.

The 12-day bootcamp programme, which was introduced last year, was held for the first time in Sarawak from Aug 14 to 25.

Bacho said such initiative was designed for campers to enhance their job prospects, improve marketability and provide an opportunity to explore the realm of digital entrepreneurship.

The six local universities involved include Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Swinburne University, Curtin University, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia Kampus Bintulu (UPMKB).

The Sarawak edition of the BeDigital Bootcamp saw the involvement of partners, namely Tata Consultancy Services, Enfrasys Consulting Sdn Bhd, FPT Software dan SEDC Energy Sdn Bhd.
