IPOH - A good safety culture in all organisations plays a crucial role in ensuring effective service delivery and achieving high performance standards.

Malaysian Nuclear Agency deputy director-general (Research & Technology Development Programme) Dr Rosli Darmawan said that by emphasising a high safety culture, organisations can indirectly influence the practices, attitudes and behaviour of stakeholders.

"In order to achieve this goal, it requires the continued commitment of all parties to the protection of people and the environment for radiation risks and facility safety," he said when opening the 24th Radiation Protection Conference and Workshop themed 'Advancing Radiation Protection For Safety Culture' here today.

According to him, in line with the era of technology advancements, there is a need for sharing in technological expertise so that people can always improve the progress of radiation protection from time to time.

Rosli said the importance of innovation and technology needs to be emphasised in ensuring Malaysia remains competitive and becomes a leader in nuclear technology at the regional level.

The conference organised by the Malaysian Radiation Protection Association (Marpa) as a non-governmental organisation representing a group of professionals and experts in the aspects of radiation protection and safety also received cooperation from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

It aims to convey the latest information regarding the development of nuclear technology applications in various fields and to provide a comprehensive overview and the latest practices in radiation protection and safety at work and in the field.

The four-day conference involves about 150 delegates from universities, government departments and the majority of participants are from industries that use nuclear technology in the country. There will be presentation of papers from various sectors. - BERNAMA
