MELAKA - Parking facilities in Banda Hilir, here, will be improved to ensure smooth implementation of the vehicle-free zone in tourist hotspots in the area from 6pm to midnight every Saturday.

State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said the implementation of the vehicle-free zone was still in the trial phase and efforts were being made to identify more parking spaces in the area.

"I have also instructed the Historic Melaka City Council (MBMB) to take into account every feedback, complaint or opinion from the community and visitors so that we can improve this initiative.

"This is also carried out in line with the preparations for the Visit Melaya Year 2024 (TMM2024),” he told reporters here last night.

He was met after the MBMB Appreciation ceremony 2023 which was also attended by the State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee deputy chairman Datuk Zulkifli Mohd Zin and MBMB Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.

Rais said various activities, such as fun rides and busking were also held during the weekends to liven up the areas around Banda Hilir.

"We have a big agenda which is to ensure the success of TMM2024, which is in another four months and preparations are in full gear with the local government authorities (PBT) working hard to ensure that the state is always clean, beautiful and prosperous," he added. - BERNAMA
