PUTRAJAYA - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all segments of society to interpret the country's independence with a spirit of freedom and independent thinking.

Speaking at the Prime Minister's address in conjunction with Merdeka Day 2023, he said that understanding independence means that there needs to be an awareness that Malaysia's blessed land is a trust that must be accounted for by the highest leadership to the citizens.

"All powers, from the grassroots level of villages to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), must nurture a spirit of independence," he said at the event attended by 8,000 attendees at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Wednesday.
