By-election: 'Don't threaten, scare the voters' - Muda

JOHOR BAHRU - Political parties are reminded not to scare the voters of Pulai Parliament and Simpang Jeram State Legislative Assembly in by-elections (PRK) with sensitive issues, especially those involving religion, race, and royalty (3R), while campaigning just because they want to get votes.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisyah Abd Aziz said the political parties involved need to be more responsible by not playing on the sentiments that scare them.

"Don't terrorise the voters and use that sentiment of fear to get votes, including claims that the Unity Government will fall. Don't be too concerned with issues like that.

"Also don't threaten the voters because they are now smart and not ignorant," she told reporters before the launch of the Johor Nation Games 2023 at the Johor Bahru City Council Arena Stadium (MBJB) here on Friday.

Amira said that the issue of changing the federal government should not be played in the by-election campaign, and Parikatan Nasional (PN) must respect the people's choice and the decision of the political parties to join a coalition government.

The Puteri Wangsa state assembly member said that even though Muda contested the state election and opposed other political coalitions, she still wanted to maintain the stability of the government at the federal level.

"Give space to the Federal government to serve until the next general election because stability is important for the economy and (outsiders') trust in Malaysia's political landscape," she said.

When asked why the Muda machinery did not help Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the by-election, Amira said that the matter had been informed before and that she had personally contacted the PH candidate, Suhaizan Kaiat, to express her support.

She said the Muda Pulai machinery will also come down to help the campaign of the Unity Government candidate later to ensure that the voters are aware and go out to vote on September 9.

In the Pulai Parliamentary by-election, Suhaizan will meet PN candidate Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
