Mustapa Omar appointed as MPI CEO, effective today

KUALA LUMPUR - Former Harian Metro group editor Datuk Mustapa Omar has been appointed as the new Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) chief executive officer, effective today.

MPI, in a statement today, announced that Mustapa is replacing Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya, whose term ended on June 30.

Mustapa has more than 33 years of experience in journalism, starting his career at Berita Harian and retiring as Harian Metro’s group editor in 2017.

"The management of MPI is confident with his experience, skills and credibility, Mustapa can further strengthen MPI’s governance and excellence,” read the statement.

MPI also recorded its highest appreciation to Chamil and thanked him for his services as MPI’s CEO for 16 years. - BERNAMA
