KUALA LUMPUR - The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has locked the water supply to the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and public housing (PA) units whose owners were reluctant to pay rent.

DBKL said the Community Development and Urban Wellbeing Department has enforced the water supply lock at the Perkasa and Seri Alam PPRs before taking a similar action at other locations.

It said various efforts have been made to give space to tenants to clear their outstanding rent payments including announcements and notices besides holding face-to-face meet-ups and opening mobile counters.

“Opening mobile counters aimed to facilitate payment transactions especially for residents who have outstanding rents.

"After all efforts had been made, a lock on the water supply is imposed on tenants who are still stubborn to come forward to negotiate and resolve their outstanding rents despite various reminders and opportunities being given," it said in a statement on Facebook.

DBKL said it took the matter seriously and will expand the operation to lock the water supply at PA and PPR areas to detect tenants who did not pay their rent.

"To tenants who have outstanding rents and have not been subjected to action, do settle it immediately.

"Explain the outstanding rents before the water lock is imposed which will definitely cause difficulties later," it warned.
