KANGAR - Malaysians are advised to always take care of their personal safety and vital documents while visiting Thailand.

The new Malaysian Consul-General in Songkhla, Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi said Malaysians are also reminded to comply with local laws while in Thailand and to be in close contact with the Malaysian Consul-General’s office in Songkhla.

"Do remember to check and ensure all documents and their passports have an exit stamp and date before leaving Thailand or the Immigration counter as we have received many reports regarding Malaysians not checking their travel documents before leaving the border causing them to have to return to the Thai Immigration office to complete the formality,” he said in a statement issued by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maips) today, adding that those who failed to do so would be fined and blacklisted from entering Thailand in the future.

Ahmad Fahmi had discussed the matter recently with the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail in Hat Yai, Thailand, when His Highness also presented RM5,000 in Ibnu Sabil donations to the Consul-General’s office, in the presence of Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Indonesian Consul-General of Indonesia in Songkhla Suargana Pringganu. - BERNAMA
