SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) urges the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) to provide an explanation regarding the decision to halt proceedings on the 47 charges faced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi.

ABIM's President, Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz, stated that this call was made to prevent any misunderstanding and to stop any speculations that could potentially affect the public's perception of the country's justice system.

"At the same time, ABIM also calls for a commitment to restructure the prosecution powers by separating the roles of the public prosecutor and the Attorney General's Office to be realised promptly. This is to avoid any doubts regarding the actions taken by the public prosecutor in the prosecution," he said in a statement on Monday.

Earlier, Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah released Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, from the 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption, and money laundering involving the funds of the Akalbudi Foundation. This decision was made after granting the Deputy Public Prosecutor's request to discontinue all proceedings against Zahid up to this point.

Zahid was charged with eight counts of corruption, 12 counts of criminal breach of trust, and 27 counts of money laundering related to the Akalbudi Foundation's funds.
