KUALA TERENGGANU - The Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) will be involved in the process of appointing a mosque committee in Terengganu.

Terengganu Information Da'wah and Syariah Enforcement Exco Dr Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said the move can empower the local community as well as encourage a close cooperation between various government agencies in the state government administration.

"To ensure the smoothness of the appointment of the mosque committee throughout the area, JPKK will be involved directly in the appointment process.

"By taking into account the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maidam) and Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) jurisdictions in the mosque committee member appointment, information regarding their appointment can be conveyed in collaboration with JPKK," he said in a statement.

He said measures were taken to ensure the appointment process continues harmoniously, transparently and effectively.

However, Umno Ulama Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali on Wednesday claimed that Terengganu Pas' actions involving JPKK in the mosque appointment committee was feared to affect unity between the public making it difficult to be achieved.

He claimed that political interference in the mosque appointment committee will happen if JPKK was involved.
