SHAH ALAM - Karnival Pendidikan Sinar Bestari hosted an electrifying fire demonstration by the Fire and Rescue Department today at Karangkraf headquarters.

The fire extinguishing performance did not only educate visitors, mostly children and parents but also ignited the crowd’s enthusiasm to be more aware in their daily life.

The adrenaline-pumping event kicked off as fire-fighters from Shah Alam’s Section 15 Station took centre-stage to share life-saving safety tips and instruction on how to handle hot situations.

Its station deputy chief Muhammad Rizwan Parsimin said the first demonstration was centred on empowering the audience to confidently handle kitchen fires stemming from cooking pans or gas leaks and keeping cool-headed and in control during such critical moments.

“It’s crucial everyone in the household knows how to extinguish a fire before the Fire and Rescue Department arrives.

“The most common misconception is to use water to extinguish a cooking pan on fire but it can actually lead to oil splashes - it’s a natural reaction for the oil.

“Thus the most effective way to extinguish a cooking pan on fire is by using a wet cloth. Approach the cooking pan and just cover it with the wet cloth,” he said during the event.

In the case of extinguishing a fire from a leaking gas tank, Rizwan said simply close the hose with your thumb and cover the gas tank with a wet cloth.

He said this move will help extinguish the fire and that there will not be any harm as pressure was low.

Rizwan also expressed how delighted he was that the audience especially school children were early volunteering in the demonstration that not only reflected their courage but also confidence in dealing with fires.

He said the crowds’ response showed they were willing to take on challenges in the future and hopefully, prepared to act when faced with such situations.
