MUAR - Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Simpang Jeram by-election, Nazri Abdul Rahman described his win today as the result of the hard work and strong partnership between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN).

He added that it would dispel the stigma that their partnership was not accepted by voters in the constituency, especially Malays.

"This win isn’t mine alone, it’s a win for the entire team, as we know for this election it’s the PH-BN coalition.

"I thank all PH and BN machineries, as without their cooperation and hard work, I could not have won so handsomely,” he told reporters after his 3,514-majority victory was announced by the Election Commission.

The Bakri Amanah deputy chief received 13,844 votes, beating Mohd Mazri Yahya of Perikatan Nasional (PN), who received 10,330 votes and independent candidate S Jeganathan, 311 votes.

Nazri said that he would try to fulfil the promises he made during campaigning and would meet up with voters to express his gratitude to them, vowing to provide the best service as their assemblyman.

"Insha-Allah I will meet them as soon as possible to thank them, as who am I without their support," he said, adding that he looked at his rivals as friends and hoped to be able to work together with them. - BERNAMA
