Muda's decision to leave unity government necessary

SHAH ALAM – The decision by the President of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to lead his party out of the unity government is a highly justified move.

Muafakat Nasional (MN) Deputy President Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin praised the move and congratulated Syed Saddiq and his party for their courage in upholding principles and integrity.

Zuraida emphasised that this step has had a significantly negative impact on the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as the PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in power has lost a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

“Upon examining newspaper reports on why Muda chose to exit Pakatan Harapan, I believe they have very strong reasons.

“The recent dropping of criminal charges against several political figures associated with PH has caused frustration among the Malaysian.

“The once sacred call for "Reformasi," which at one point stirred the people's spirits to oppose tyranny, now appears to be nothing more than empty rhetoric,” she stated.

The former Plantation Industries and Commodities minister also expressed that what Muda did deserved significant commendation because they proudly withdrew their support from the PH-BN government based on principles rather than acting solely in the interest of individuals or specific groups.

“They could have comfortably remained within the government's leadership, but they have chosen to rise and fight for the future of all Malaysians.

Yesterday, it was reported that Muda has withdrawn its support for the unity government and has chosen to be the third force opposition.

In a video posted on Facebook, Saddiq, who is also Muar MP, remarked that the party informed Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul of the matter through a letter.

The decision, he said, was made after discussions were held with the party's leadership.

"This is a tough decision, but it must be done.

"The road ahead will be long and lonely but worth it as Malaysia always comes first," he said in the video.

Thw action was a protest against the court's decision to discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) Umno President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi on 47 charges involving Yayasan Akalbudi, recently.
