JKM seeks baby's next-of-kin

KEMAMAN - Social Welfare Department Terengganu (JKM) is currently searching for the biological mother and next-of-kin of a baby girl who was discovered at a chicken shop in Bukit Jabor, Chukai, on July 6.

Kemaman District Social Welfare Office Mohd Fadzli Ismail added that the baby in question was found by an employee at the shop at around 7.30 in the morning before reporting it to the Kemaman Police Station.

"The baby in question was placed under Section 25(2) of the Child Act 2001 by the Kemaman District Magistrate's Court to be placed under the care of JKM institution from July 12 until now.

"Previously, the baby was taken to Kemaman Hospital for further examination and treatment," he elaborated.

Members of the public with information about the biological mother or next-of-kin of the baby in question can contact the Kemaman District Social Welfare Office protector, Siti Fatimah Mohamad Fadzil, at 09-859 1686.

Previously, the media reported that a trader had found a baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached, abandoned on the floor of a premise in the Jabur Kubur area, Jalan Air Putih.

Kemaman District Police Chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan, stated that the baby, estimated to weigh 3.2 kilograms, is believed to have been born three or four days before being left at the location.
